Schools Win NYS Technology Grants

This past winter, the New York State Department of Education issued a RFP for the Learning Technology Grant and many of the schools in the Albany diocese were asked to collaborate with a public school or BOCES to apply.
The purpose of this grant program was to improve student academic performance in relation to the New York State learning standards, with a particular focus on mathematics, English Language Arts through the integration of education technology in districts, school buildings and classroom activities. This grant's award period is July 2004 through June 2005. The maximum grant award was $50,000 with 45% allotted for professional development.
Several of our schools have received funding through this grant: Mont Pleasant Middle School in Schenectady and Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons
School will be paired on a grant. This

grant entitled "Math Achievement '05 Tech Acceleration Mentors (MAch '05 TeAM)" will focus on enhancing the grade 7 Math curriculum using the GenY Program. Maplewood, Green Island, Scotia-Glenville, Schenectady, Burnt Hills districts and St. Brigid's and
St. John the Evangelist have partnered on a grant. Their project entitled "Science Data Goes Digital" will involve students from different schools working on the same unit and sharing data through science notebooking with digital cameras, Blackboard.com and teleconferencing. It will target grades 4-7.
Our Lady of Victory and Sacred Heart received a grant with Troy City Schools which will extend the activities begun in their EETT collaboration. Lastly, Granville Central Schools and
St. Mary's/St. Alphonsus also collaborated for a Learning Technology Grant.
