Intergenerational Mission Garden
Winner of two awards
St. Jude's School worked in conjunction with the St. Jude's Senior Complex to complete an "Intergenerational Mission Garden" that saw more than 100 students and residents of the low-income apartment complex plant a 10' by 40' garden. The students prepared the garden plot, donated by the apartment complex, and joined with the seniors to plant tomatoes, carrots, pumpkins, acorn squash and herbs for a September harvest. Food from the garden was given to local food banks and senior residents.

The goals of the garden were to develop an on-going learning experience about plants and agriculture, and to encourage a sense of mission with food production for senior citizens and others in need. St. Jude's plans to use the award money to expand the garden with new crops, adding spring bulbs that would signal spring and could be used for Mother's Day bouquets for the many widowed residents of the apartments.
