On March 27, 2003, the Author of Twinkle-Dust, Alice W. Bowman, Visited pre-k through 5th grade students at St. Ambrose School. In 1994, “Twinkle-Dust” was named one of the top 20 of “America’s Best” in the Children’s Picture Book category by The Writer’s Foundation in Orlando, Florida. Pre-k enjoyed watching Mrs. Bowman’s dress light up when the lights were turned off. They also enjoyed listening to her magical finger play about stars. They were amazed that when she read the stories she did not have to look at the pictures. The first grade students really got a lot out of the experience. Overall, based on a classroom poll, they thought Twinkle Dust was cute and liked his “special mission from God.” They also got a great deal out of learning how the publishing process compares to the one that we use in the classroom. They were surprised when Mrs. Bowman used the term “sloppy copy” because that is also what we refer to it as. The second grade thoroughly enjoyed listening to Mrs. Bowman read her story and then tell about how a book is written and published. They were also very eager to share their experiences with writing stories and illustrating. To learn more about Mrs. Bowman got to http://www.twinkle-dust.com
