6th Graders Raise Funds to Help Rebuild
Latham Ridge Playground.
On Friday, October 25, Principal Martin and several 6th
grade students from Latham Ridge Elementary visited the 6th
grade class at St. Ambrose School to receive a check for the rebuilding
of their burned playground.
The St. Ambrose 6th graders felt the need
to help out their Latham Ridge counterparts after hearing that their
played had been torched. The following is the text from the presentation
they made to Latham Ridge.
“Welcome Mr. Martin, and Latham Ridge 6th
graders to our own 6th grade class at Saint Ambrose. We’re
glad you could find the time in your busy schedule to visit us today.
We’d like to tell you how we came upon the idea of doing some fund
raising for your school’s playground.
As part of a class discussion on community events and how we can
affect our community in a positive way, the subject of your playground
came up. We wanted to help you rebuild. Because we personally know many
students at Latham Ridge as our friends, or have ourselves played on
that playground, we were more motivated to find a way to help.
We brainstormed ideas. Then we got permission from our principal,
Sr. Mary Presentation, to hold a week’s worth of fundraising
activities in our school so that the whole student body could
participate.
We scheduled our events during the week of October 7 –11. We
made signs and posters and talked to each classroom. We sent home
fliers. Our activities included: A candy corn guessing contest,
lunchtime bake sales, and goody bag sales.
We also had a weeklong “helping hands” program.
For a $1.00 donation, each student was able to place his/her handprint
on a piece of paper. These pages have been assembled into a book of our
well wishes to be shared with all at Latham Ridge.
When all was said and done, we tallied our
contributions. We are pleased and proud to present you with a check for
$460.
We look forward to seeing your playground rebuilt
even better than before! Good Luck from all your friends at Saint
Ambrose.”
