September 2009: We are excited that our hot lunch program continues to be provided by the North Colonie Central Schools Food Service Department. This will be our seventh year with North Colonie and their hot  lunch program has been very successful. The program benefits our school in several ways:

  • Nutritious lunches – the lunch program is part of the National School Lunch Program regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This means that the lunch meals meet one-third of the recommended daily allowances for protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, calcium and calories.
     
  • Lower cost – North Colonie uses a meal account system and parents have 2 payment options:

    Payment Option 1:  Pre-pay (deposit) $40.00 into your child’s meal account. This will purchase 20 lunches plus 1 free bonus lunch.  This is a $2.00 savings over Option 2.  To begin a meal account for your child, make checks payable to "North Colonie Central Schools Food Service" (NCCS Food Service) and bring them to the St. Ambrose School Office. If you are sending the check into school with your child, please mark the envelope "Hot Lunch Meal Account" and  include your child's name and grade on the envelope.

    Payment Option 2:  Pay cash for meals. For those paying cash, meal price is $2.00. This money can be sent in with our child on the days they will be purchasing lunch.

    Regardless of which payment option you choose, the price includes entrée, side dish, milk (white, chocolate or skim) and fruit.
     
  • Greater selection – each day our students will be able to choose from 2 different hot entrees plus a side dish and assorted fruit and milk. PB&J and box lunch are available daily also.

    Other things you should know about the hot lunch program:

    • Students with a pre-paid meal account will be given a personalized pin number to purchase their meal.
       
    • Snack items are  also available for purchase after hot lunches are served. The snack list is subject to change but the list below should give you an idea of selection and pricing. Snacks may not be purchased through the meal account.
       
    Baked Chips $0.55   Fruit Snacks (large) $0.85
    Twix $0.35   Fruit Roll Up $0.50
    Bottled Water $0.85   Fruit Snacks (small) $0.25
    Milk (choc/white) $0.50   Cookies/buddy bar $0.25
    • If your child brings in lunch from home, they may still purchase milk at school. Price per carton is $0.50.
    • If you have set up a prepay account, a note will go home with your child when your balance reaches 5-8 lunches.
    • Lunch orders will be taken in homeroom at the start of each day. It is important that your child knows if (and what) he/she is ordering that day. If your child will be coming in late, please make sure they bring their lunch or that you have called the school office by 9:00 a.m. with your child's lunch order.
    • In order to facilitate this program we provide names and addresses of our families to North Colonie Schools Food Service Department. North Colonie assures us that this information is used in the strictest confidence, in accordance with State Education Department regulations, and ONLY for the purpose of administering the lunch program.
  • Children from households that meet Federal income guidelines are eligible for free or reduced price meals.
