May/June 2007
The 2007 school
year is almost over for fourth grade.
We are on the last
story in our reader and will be taking the year end test soon.
In Social Studies
we just finished our Chapter 9 test which was on the Civil War. We
learned about the Emancipation Proclamation, the 13th amendment,
and met many reformers such as – Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglas
and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
On video we
watched famous battles of the Civil War. We have learned all of
the presidents in order and that is quite an accomplishment.
English finds us
struggling with possessive pronouns, homographs, suffixes and
prefixes.
Math 4 – is working on division and will soon learn measurement and capacity
and use one digit and two digit division and multiplication to change units in
measurement.
Ascension Thursday was discussed in
Religion. Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit is our next
lesson.
All in all a lot
of learning has been accomplished in fourth grade and we are
looking forward to a carefree summer – one filled with God’s Love
and Sunshine.

From Sr. Marlene - "A Blessed New Year
to all of you. I want to thank you for all the cards, gifts
and especially your generosity. I know all of the fundraisers that
you are involved in, so I am truly grateful. You are aware
that next week the children will be taking the Reading and English
test for 4th grade. We have finished our Blast Off book and
covered the aspects required by the test. They have done their
best, I hope I have, too, in preparation :-) The first part
of the test will begin on Tuesday. Thank you, Sr.
Marlene"

November
2006 Art Gallery photos- some of us had our pictures taken
during Art Class!
Book Reports - Two for each month have
been turned in. The children have received a coupon to Pizza Hut
for their own free personal pan pizza. This has been a delicious
way to get the children to read!
Social Studies - Chapter Three was just
completed. Learning about the early Native American's culture and
way of living was most interesting for the children. They compared
and contrasted the tribes of the Iroquois and Algonquins.
English - Reading - Our Blast Off is
preparing the children to get ready for the NY State test which is
in January.
Handwriting seems to be quite a
challenge. We have just finished writing lower case letters
properly. After Thanksgiving we will begin upper case letters.
For Thanksgiving the children wrote
letters to their parents thanking them for all that they do. Each
child went home with a prayer that can be said at their
Thanksgiving meal.
Til Next Time!
